Mistranslating the Bible to whitewash thorny scriptures

Here’s a short excerpt from the book I am currently editing and will be publishing relatively soon. Man Made God is by the great mythologist Barbara G. Walker, who thoroughly demonstrates the massive injustice committed against ancient goddess-worshipping peoples by the Abrahamic, male-dominant cultus.  Included in this manmade cultural domination is the ongoing attempt at whitewashing the bloody nature of this religious ideation emanating out of desert regions.

One of the revisionist tactics is to reduce significantly the number of people tortured, murdered and robbed in the name of Christianity – watch out for that one, as you will begin seeing it all over the place.  First, the faithful cheerleaders merely ignored that this bloody turmoil ever happened, and it was omitted from commentaries over the centuries. When secularists and Christians of conscience began to raise the genocidal nature of the Inquisition and other Christian behavior – leading to an extensive body of literature demonstrating the horrendous crimes of the Church – apparently Church leaders decided to destroy the evidence, so that they could then reduce the appearance of the desolation.  Now we have people claiming that “peer-reviewed” scholars are saying there have been far fewer deaths in the name of Judeo-Christianity than has been claimed, just a handful of a few tens of thousands, rather than the hundreds of millions recorded by other sources.

Part of this revisionism is another tactic the faithful are using in order to whitewash the true nature of the Abrahamic cultus: Mistranslating the Bible itself.  This tactic has been used in the past, but the following paragraph from Man Made God will demonstrate the degree to which this deception is being taken. Here Barbara is speaking specifically about this modern mistranslation effort:

A modern version of such censorship is called the Living Bible, or more recently The Book, which contains considerable spin-doctoring of traditional texts. For instance, Exodus 34:14, “The Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous god,” has become “a God who claims absolute loyalty.” The “little children” who mocked Elisha’s bald head and were slain by God have become “a gang of young men” to make God seem less child-abusive. Jesus’s order that a disciple must “hate” his family members (Luk 14:26) has been revised to say that Jesus expects his disciples to love him more than their families. And Jesus’s rude remark to his mother, “Woman, what have I to do with thee?” (Jhn 2:4) has been changed to “I can’t help you now.” The problem of Paul’s companions, who heard a voice but saw nothing (Acts 9:7) and also saw the light but heard nothing (Acts 22:9), has been rather unsatisfactorily solved by claiming that they didn’t understand what the voice said. Jeremiah’s mistake in calling the king of Judah “Jehoiakim” in 27:1 and “Zedekiah” two verses later, has been rectified by simply omitting both names. And Samuel’s mistake in saying that Michal “had no child unto the day of her death” (2 Sa 6:23) and also that Michal had five sons (2 Sa 21:8) has been rectified by arbitrary insertion of the word “adopted” to change the original meaning.

Expect much more of the same critical insights in this fantastic book – written in the nick of time, obviously!

1. History Channel?
There was a recent propaganda movie on History (?) channel about an inquisition event and no one was tortured or killed, Not much of anything happened. In the end I couldn’t see why they made the movie, much less why they would broadcast it. . It was really dumb.
Hopefully here will be better material material available eventually.
I have seen some signs of better things to come with new information about when an who may have been involved in exodis.

2. Mistranslating Bible
:silly:  We are in the time of the war of religions of faith. The war is mental among mainly the mental midgets of Christianity and Islam.
It will be over, if the world lasts, sometime in the 22nd century. People are too hardwired to see beyond the lies. However, the fringe will get it and need to ‘collect among themselves’. The ‘religious salesmen’ will hold on to their flocks for dear life even when knowing the truth.

3. It is lamentable that so many still hold the Bible to be the “Inerrant Word of God” when it clearly is errant.

1. Bible-inerrant…
Great as usual Acharya S

If you calculate, how many believers or non-believers have actually read or even cared to read the actual religious scriptures? One would be astonished. It has become a fashion to give “Opinions”, including commenting the columns. Do you not often brush them on this account?

As you know, the “Bible” is a good pillar to stand on the “Attic” of the
“Organised Religion” which is a business. You know the old addage,”All is fair in War and Love”. I have revised it to, “All is fair in War, Love, Business and Politics”.

Today, I feel the need to further edit it to, “All is fair in War, Love, Business, Politics and RELIGION” too.

In India, the God market is a very flourishing business, if you can encash it, including its all the worldly vices. An amazing land, with its distortionists getting the upper hand. These pseudo-saints have done more damage thaqn good to the actual cause and essence of the
“Religion”. They can be classed as “Quake Gurus”.

4. raw nerves?!
I think you hit the nerve on the last one Acharya! HAHAHAHAHA! Keep it up!

5. You Rock
You and we are chipping away at the stone. It took many thousands of years to infuse the myths into the cultures of the world. To expect an instant revelation as to the ridiculous nature of their claims is to expect too much. In 1992 there were 7% atheists in the US. Now there are 15%. I will bet that this progress is not linear but exponential thanks to the work of Acharya and Barbara. You ladies rock!!!

1. YES!

I was recently on a blog that accurately related how Christianity only started to assume preeminent observance in the western world through the political machinations of Emperor Constantine. The fundees crawled out of the woodwork in indignation about that one.

Expect the teeming brain-washed to push back in response to the dissemination of accurate history that reduces all their essential tenets of the provenance of the human condition and superstition-laden worldview to age-old myths. These women and others simply pick themselves up after bouts of derision, and dust themselves off to stride forward.

6. This is sooooo freakin AWESOME!
I love Barbara G. Walker, I really can not say enough about her.

Acharya

You have made a HUGE name for yourself in the fields of women’s studies and seeing you and Walker work together is a great reassurance that we will reclaim what is rightfully ours.

As a student I am in awe of you and Walker. Now, add Sally Roesch Wagner to list of co-workers and you have the three most important teachers in the fields of women’s studies, IMO. The three of you have turned it on its head and put it back in the direction it should have been going in the first stinking place! Away from patriarchal religions and back to the Earth Goddess.

I can’t wait to read Walker’s book ‘Man Made god’! It reminds me of the new “gender inclusive” bibles that feminist christian women were pushing a few years back. I listend to their claims and had a good laugh at how they tried to sugar coat the bibles forcing of rape victims to marrying their rapists. when I stopped and realized that they were serious, I was sick to my stomach and angry as hell.

Your student

7. Constantine did this too right?
The Gnostics mention that Constantine sat down with a bunch of important and influential persons of a religious nature and decided what would be put in the bible and what would be left out. Obviously the historical veracity of the text wasn’t the main focus of the “creative storytelling session.”

How many hundreds of translations are there? How many commentaries? It is an audacity to assume that everything in the current biblical text is exactly the same as it was originally written and originally put together as well as fulfilling it’s original purpose.

1. Seraglio Bible
After Emperor Constantine “arranged” the New Testament into a form approximating that of today, he ordered scribes to make ‘fifty sumptuous copies’ of the now “official” text. He also decreed beheading and confiscation of property for anyone ‘caught’ with an unauthorized pre-edited rendition of the” New Testament”. (to encourage informers, the stoolie got a cut of the family’s confiscated property, the rest went to the Church. Ths included everyone on both sides of the family tree down to the cousin general, or third cousin. The sins of one heretic would exterminate an entire family line. I believe this was called the Glasian Decree) One copy survived into the twentieth century, it was located in the seraglio or library of the Sancta Sophia Mosque formerly the jewell of orthodox churches in Isntanbul, Turkey. Just before Ataturk took power and swept away the Sultanate, Rome put heavy pressure on, and this “Seraglio Bible” was sent to the Vatican library. It is not accessable to disinterested modern scholars and is now in their locked or secret archives. Archrya, are you familiar with the works of Tony Bushby? This little tale was in his latest book ‘The Twin Deception’. Are any of the other 49 copies known or rumoured to be still existing today?

1. re: Seraglio Bible
I had no idea about the Seraglio Bible.

Would you kindly explain a bit more about it? Why is it called Seraglio(library?) Bible when the decree is called Galsian?

Where could I read more about these facts ref. to Constatine, etc?
Thanks, Irene

8. A Must Read
Apparently the criticisms of scholars and lay people alike over the last few decades is finally having an effect. Naturally, being the intellectual and moral cowards they are, the fundies are hiding behind spin rather than confronting their dirty and bloody heritage. They have to, they painted themselves into this corner with their “perfect” and “infallible” balderdash. But genuine scholarship is exposing them for the hucksters they are, and if the media tells the truth the fundies will soon destroy themselves and their credibility with the public with inflammatory but unsupportable antics that will be rightly discredited. But don’t hold your breath. The media has no guts and little credibility itself.

9. Were the Templars Closet Feminists?
I recently viewed a DVD of the book Da Vinci Code Decoded. It interviews several authors of books related to the general idea. It seems that the Templars are credited somehow with preserviing the “Grail Heresy” which was that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and they fathered a child and their bloodline continued in France until at least the time of the Templars. Does anyone know of any other evidence to this effect? Were the Templars in favor of a leading role for women in Christianity? The idea seems fairly well established that Da Vinci definitely did, but I don’t quite get the Templar connection.
