UPDATE: ‘BIGFOOT’ DNA SEQUENCED IN UPCOMING GENETICS STUDY: Five-Year Genome Study Yields Evidence of Homo sapiens/Unknown Hominin Hybrid Species in North America

Here’s another press release, as of 2/13/13: “Three Bigfoot Genomes Sequenced In 5-Year DNA Study

“A team of scientists can verify that their 5-year long DNA study, currently under peer-review, confirms the existence of a novel hominin hybrid species, commonly called ‘Bigfoot’ or ‘Sasquatch,’ living in North America. Researchers’ extensive DNA sequencing suggests that the legendary Sasquatch is a human relative that arose approximately 15,000 years ago as a hybrid cross of modern Homo sapiens with an unknown primate species.”

Here is the paper’s title, contributors and one of the journals it is purportedly published in:

“Novel North American Hominins, Next Generation Sequencing of Three Whole Genomes and Associated Studies.” Authors: Ketchum MS, Wojtkiewicz PW, Watts AB, Spence DW, Holzenburg AK, Toler DG, Prychitko TM, Zhang F, Bollinger S, Shoulders R, Smith R. Journal of Advanced Multidisciplinary Exploration in Zoology. 11 January 2013

The paper also apparently is being published in DeNovo Scientific Journal, vol. 1, a new publication said to have “problems,” per Loren Coleman.

Forensic Expert Says Bigfoot Is Real
Stefan Lovgren
National Geographic News on Bigfoot
October 23, 2003

It’s been the subject of campfire stories for decades. A camera-elusive, grooming-challenged, bipedal ape-man that roams the mountain regions of North America. Some call it Sasquatch. Others know it as Bigfoot.

Thousands of people claim to have seen the hairy hominoid, but the evidence of its existence is fuzzy. There are few clear photographs of the oversized beast. No bones have ever been found. Countless pranksters have admitted to faking footprints. Yet a small but vociferous number of scientists remain undeterred. Risking ridicule from other academics, they propose that there’s enough forensic evidence to warrant something that has never been done: a comprehensive, scientific study to determine if the legendary primate actually exists.

Jeff Meldrum, associate professor of anatomy and anthropology at Idaho State University“Given the scientific evidence that I have examined, I’m convinced there’s a creature out there that is yet to be identified,” said Jeff Meldrum, a professor of anatomy and anthropology at Idaho State University in Pocatello.

Thousands of Sightings

Sasquatch stories go back centuries. Tales of mythical giant apes lurk in the oral traditions of most Native American tribes, as well as in Europe and Asia. The Himalaya has its Abominable Snowman, or the Yeti. In Australia, Bigfoot is known as the Yowie Man.

Bigfoot advocates hypothesize that the primate is the offspring of an ape from Asia that wandered to North America during the Ice Age. They believe there are at least 2,000 ape men walking upright in North America’s woods today….

Now, Bigfoot advocates are increasingly turning to forensic evidence to prove the existence of the giant creature.

Investigator Jimmy Chilcutt of the Conroe Police Department in Texas, who specializes in finger- and footprints, has analyzed the more than 150 casts of Bigfoot prints that Meldrum, the Idaho State professor, keeps in a laboratory.

Chilcutt says one footprint found in 1987 in Walla Walla in Washington State has convinced him that Bigfoot is real….

“The bottom line is, they don’t have a body,” said Michael Dennett, who writes for Skeptical Inquirer magazine and who has followed the Bigfoot debate for 20 years.

Bigfoot buffs note that it’s rare to find a carcass of a grizzly bear in the wild. While that’s true, grizzlies have not escaped photographic documentation….

Scientific AmericanBigfoot Anatomy

Sasquatch is just a legend, right? According to the evidence, maybe not, argues Jeffrey Meldrum–a position he holds despite ostracism from his fellow anthropologists and university colleagues

One overcast Sunday morning in 1996, Jeffrey Meldrum and his brother drove to Walla Walla, Wash., to see if they could find Paul Freeman, a man renowned in Bigfoot circles as a source of footprint casts. Meldrum—who has followed Bigfoot lore since he was a boy—had heard that Freeman was a hoaxer, “so I was very dubious,” he recalls. The brothers arrived unannounced, Meldrum says, and chatted with Freeman about his collection. Freeman said he had found tracks just that morning, but they were not good, not worth casting. The brothers wanted to see them regardless. “I thought we could use this to study the anatomy of a hoax,” Meldrum says. Instead Meldrum’s visit to a ridge in the Blue Mountains set him firmly on a quest he has been on since.

Meldrum, an associate professor of anatomy and anthropology at Idaho State University, is an expert on foot morphology and locomotion in monkeys, apes and hominids. He has studied the evolution of bipedalism and edited From Biped to Strider (Springer, 2004), a well-respected textbook. He brought his anatomical expertise to the site outside Walla Walla. The 14-inch-long prints Freeman showed him were interesting, Meldrum says, because some turned out at a 45-degree angle, suggesting that whatever made them had looked back over its shoulder. Some showed skin whorls, some were flat with distinct anatomical detail, others were of running feet—imprints of the front part of the foot only, of toes gripping the mud. Meldrum made casts and decided it would be hard to hoax the running footprints, “unless you had some device, some cable-loaded flexible toes.”

To Meldrum, the anatomy captured in those prints and the casts of others he has examined as well as still unidentified hairs, recordings of strange calls and certain witness testimonials all add up to valid evidence that warrants study. He reviews that evidence in Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science (Forge, 2006). “My book is not an attempt to convince people of the existence of Sasquatch,” the 49-year-old Meldrum says emphatically; rather it argues that “the evidence that exists fully justifies the investigation and the pursuit of this question.”

To Meldrum’s critics—including university colleagues and scientists in his own field—that same collection does not constitute valid evidence, and Meldrum’s examination of it is pseudoscientific: belief shrouded in the language of scientific rigor and analysis….

National Geographic also has a well-done special on the subject, The Truth Behind Bigfoot:

Believers in the massive creature claim he’s half man, half primate and roams the Pacific Northwest. Join a team of experts as they use advanced scientific analysis to investigate the phenomenon to reveal what’s science, and what’s science fiction. Follow along as we break down one of the most controversial pieces of evidence… a 40-year-old film that many believe is actual video of the apelike being.

The state-of-the-art analysis of the Roger Patterson film is quite impressive, although skepticism will remain, obviously. I am reminded of the same skepticism as concerns the mountain gorilla, described by native Africans for centuries but pooh-poohed by European scientists–until it was eventually found by them. These scientists likewise contended that nothing that big could have escaped notice or not left behind physical artifacts.

History ChannelThe History Channel also weighs in with a special featuring a panel of scientists in relevant fields, both skeptical and supportive, Bigfoot A Definitive Guide:

A team of top scientists come together with one goal: to create the definitive guide to Bigfoot. Does the creature exist? And if it does where is it? And how can it survive without being detected?

Using a new interactive map the team has plotted more than 10,000 Bigfoot type sightings from around the world. These sightings are of an unidentified creature which walks on two legs and is covered in a thick layer of hair. Many of theses sightings date back over 100 years. With their expert knowledge of the natural world they are able to dismiss nearly 90% of the sightings, but what emerges is a series of global hotspots that cannot be explained which indicate that something is out there.

The team examines these global hotspots and searches for explanations including new theories that suggest we may have been looking for the wrong creature all along?

Whatever the truth, the stories surrounding Bigfoot and other such hominids around the world for hundreds of years are certainly fascinating, as are the other aspects of this investigation.

Here is another comment from Dr. Meldrum, in his article “ICHNOTAXONOMY OF GIANT HOMINOID TRACKS IN NORTH AMERICA”:

As summarized in the author’s recent book (Meldrum, 2006) all serious sasquatch researchers are well aware of the general skepticism amongst scientists and lay persons alike. For this reason it is worth pointing out that those inclined to take the probability of sasquatch’s existence seriously are either those with direct experience of seeing or hearing the animal, or seeing its tracks; whereas armchair skeptics have little or no direct field experience or knowledge of how widespread the trackway evidence is. On the other hand, a significant number of those who take the phenomenon seriously have extensive training and field experience in forensic science, wildlife biology and tracking in the montane forest of the western U.S. and Canada. Much of the more serious literature on the subject has been written by bona fide scientists with anthropological or biological credentials from recognized institutions (Sanderson, 1961; Napier, 1973; Shackley, 1983; Bourne, 1975; Krantz, 1999; Bindernagel, 1998; Sprague and Krantz, 1979; Markotic and Krantz, 1980; Haplin and Ames, 1980). These have acknowledged those cases of obvious hoaxing – which, incidentally, is indicated far less often than is commonly supposed….

That a giant ape once existed with the proportions necessary to produce a sasquatch-sized hominoid footprint is accepted. Gigantopithecus blacki is known exclusively from limited Pleistocene cave-deposits in China and North Viet Nam. Its meager fossil record consists of two mandibles and isolated teeth, which indicate an ape weighing as much as 450 kg. Presumed to have gone extinct a mere 250 Ka (Cameron, 2004), it is not hard to imagine its survival into the present within remote habitats including those North American forests periodically contiguous with its past Asian habitats. That an “extinct” giant ape is accepted by science on the basis of such scant fossil evidence, one might ask why serious consideration has been slow in coming to the hundreds of documented footprints (not to mention sightings, vocalizations, hair, scat, etc.).

The evidence for an unknown primate includes:

1. calls and shrieks (a Washington state anthropologist insists that he’s heard the whoops of a primate in the deep forest)
2. footprints
3. body prints
4. sightings
5. nests
6. body parts (hand, lower leg of young one)
7. smells
8. upturned trees
9. tree knocking
10. trails
11. habitats
12. feeding and hunting habits, such as breaking legs of deer, following salmon and elk routes
13. hair (inconclusive DNA, “no known animal” )
14. photos, film, including the Patterson Film (no one has conclusively debunked it, and there is good reason to believe it’s real)
15. rock throwing, clacking
16. native pictographs
17. marking with urine

  1. Its good to see more and more scientific investigation of this topic.
I think that one day, it will indeed be conclusively proven that Bigfoot (and yetis, yowies, yeren, etc.) does indeed exist.
The sooner that day comes, the better.

My only worry is the possible reactions of the more intolerant members of the human race, towards these big hairy cousins of ours.

    1. Bigfoot is real ive seen one up in MI.

  2. Probably not.
People have been searching for so long without finding any evidence. I’m talking real evidence here – not a blurring video from the distance. The probability that it exists is very small because the likelihood of being found by now seems so high.

  3. Visits From the Forest People
My wife and I have had at least 3 years of visitations from
    the Forest People so far.
We have a simple website where we are selling our book about
some of the experiences we have had with them.
I’m not here seeking to sell a book, but
we have a picture on the website of a black haired one
that I saw from about 25 feet away one night, and we
have a page where you can listen to the howling of one of
them, recorded on our property at that time, by a man who is
well known in the bigfoot research community.
    Here is the URL:

  4. Read – “Everything You Know Is Wrong”
Lloyd Pye’s book “Everything You Know is Wrong” covers Bigfoot and has some interesting stories about Bigfoot encounters and other cool stuff.

  5. Of course
His name is David Lavelle, he lives in Henrietta, Texas. We called him Wide Track..not big foot, but he may have changed over time, that was 30 years ago…We had many great times in the woods enjoying the herbs that the Creator made for us.

  6. Believe
I have followed Dr Meldrum’s work for years now aside from doing my own studies on Bigfoot, Saquatch or whatever term you wish to use. Yes, I have had one encounter as well. I believe there is enough real and circumstantial evidence that exists now thanks to persistent and intelligent people like Dr Meldrum. By real evidence I am talking about the hundreds of sightings people have had, footprints, Native American legends or passed down stories and even the Patterson film. Out of all the hundreds of sightings, some definitely must be real and to be sure, others probably are sightings of other animals or who knows what. I do know what I saw ( and smelled! ) here in the mountains of Montana, though. Many of the mountains here in Montana have never even or have rarely been explored. Those are the places I like to go to and those are the places I think that this creature probably lives in. It’s lonely country up here but that’s exactly why I love and cherish it. I think we will eventually be proven correct that this creature does indeed exist and has for probably thousands of years if not more. The Indian people’s of what is now America were sure seeing something real that resembled this creature since it exists in much of their art work. I could go on and say more but I believe this will suffice for now. Keep up the great work Dr Meldrum and all other researchers. The day will come.

  7. Bigfoot Is Real
Several thousand years ago there were thousands of slaves that were building two cities. They ran off around the world and started their own countries. When these slaves ran off there was a large group of men that took off and ended up in Africa. Some of them were giants as tall as 9 ft. or even taller. The giant named Goliath that David killed with his slingshot was 9 ft. tall. Some of these men went exploring to Borneo and used ropes to catch female orangutans. They took them to South America and had sex with them and eventually created the Indians. The men that stayed in Africa used ropes to catch female gorillas. They had sex with them and eventually created the Africans. When scientists found the bones in Africa they thought we evolved naturally from a female chimpanzee. But it wasn’t a natural evolution it was a man made evolution. That’s where all the Bigfoot and Orangutan creatures come from. They are half man and half gorilla and half man and half orangutan. They use to call the Indians the red man. The orangutan has reddish hair. When those men bred out the hair the Indian’s skin remained red. The gorilla has black hair and skin. When those men bred out the hair the African’s skin remained black. Some of the Indians and Africans are tall and some of the bigfoot and orangutan creatures are tall. They are tall because some of the men that created them were tall. Some scientists believe that we evolved naturally from a female chimpanzee. Have you ever seen an 8 ft. tall chimpanzee? I haven’t either. Bigfoot came up through Africa and into the United States at the top of Africa when they were connected by land. The Orangutan creatures came up through Central America and into the United States like the Indians did later on. These creatures were able to travel around the world to other countries because some of the land was connected at the time. The first Europeans that saw the Africans said that some of the African owmen had genitalia that resembled that of a gorilla. If you look at the nose of a full blooded African and Indian you will notice that it is wide and flat like the gorilla and orangutaqn’s nose. The North American Science Institute said that the creature in the Patterson=Gimlin film had both human and gorilla characteristics. That’s because it is a human-gorilla hybrid. Most people believe that humans and primates can not reproduce hybrids. In the 1920’s there was a group of scientists in Orange Park, Florida that was said to have created a human-primate hybrid. One of the aging scientist told someone that they did create a human-primate hybrid. He said that after a few days went by they destroyed it. This was done in secret but the word got out. The creature that Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin filmed in 1967 was half man and half gorilla. It was a female Bigfoot that they nicknamed Patty. Patty was not a man in a costume, she is not our missing link and she is not a figment of our imagination. Patty is a creature that was created by men that had sex with female gorillas and orangutans a long time ago. Believe it or not, man created his own evolution.

  8. That is some very misguided, racist thought. Africans are part gorilla? Give it up, take some medicine or something…

  9. The more i read your post , I realize now your either joking or really, really idiotic. Think my friend about what you are saying. Nonsense…

  10. I truly respect the bigfoot community and what you are searching for; knowledge and discovery. I too have been intersted in this mystery and i have come to a couple conclusions.
There are footprints, hair, sounds and videos of these creatures. But if this is a flesh and blood creature, as most witnesses, native americans, himalayans and others believe, where is the physical proof? I study radiology as well as being an expeirinced outsdoors man and the bones, fur, etc of all living things leave evidence. If someone ever found a skull or skeleton of these beings, they would keep it/show it/talk about it.
Bones can last almost indefintly in the right conditions. Even in wet/underwater conditions which is where many creatures die as they always stay near water, bones LAST FOR MONTHS OR YEARS. Someone would have found them by now. Nuff said…
On the other hand, i am open minded and have seen things (not Bigfoot) that others may dismiss. Perhaps bigfoot is not flesh and blood but a spiritual type of creature that seems real. As i understand it, bigfoot has never hurt anyone, which sounds very graceful if he is one of our (we have always been violent) descendants. I am not saying that people aren’t seeing somethinjg,Ive seen the evidence myself and some is quite convincing, but i think that this may be more than some clever giant gorilla/man creature that never leaves bones or physical evidence. The time has come for the bigfoot community to be truly open to the many possibilities, because CONCRETE PHYSICAL evidence is sorely lacking. ( and yes ive seen the footprints, hair, etc) IF THIS IS REAL, CAPTURE, KILL OR PRODUCE A REAL SKELETON. THIS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY UNTIL THEN. BLURRY VIDEOS AND MUDDY FOOTPRINTS ARE’NT GONNA CUT IT. I TRULY WISH ALL BELIEVERS LUCK IN THEIR INVESTIGATIONS BE SAFE OUT THERE.

  11. bigfoot is not real
ok if u think bigfoot is real he’s not if u do you are stuiped 🙁 .

    1. hi
      he is real.! :Pinch:

  12. Right, because it’s always best to listen to illiterate ranters than qualified scientists.

  13. Bigfoot Is Real
If we all came from Adam and Eve we would all be humans. And if we all came from evolution then we would all be evolved out by now. There’s absolutely no reason for Bigfoot to stop evolving. The reason Bigfoot is here is because they were created by men that had sex with female gorillas and orangutans a long time ago. Some of these creatures have been described as having shot dark hair like a gorilla. And some have been described as having long stringy reddish hair like an orangutan.

  14. I Seen A Real Big Foot
I Live In Springfield Massachusset And I Seen A Big Foot At Night Walking Around My House People Around My Neighborhoods Told Me They Seen It To And We Got evidence Of It And I Wish The Tv Show Of Finding Big Food Can Come To springfield And Get More Information To See If Its Real

    1. is big foot real or is he a mounkey that is over grown. B) 👿

  15. Important
Do you think Bigfoot is fake? Can’t decide whether or not he is real? Read the bible. Moses chapter 4 verses 13 – 39

  16. my story
I saw big foot walking down the street.

  17. is big foot real or not
Man i wonder if bigfoot is real but right now im doing research to see if he is real

  18. Over Population Problem
    1900- 1.6 Billion People
    2012- 7.0 Billion People
    112 years- 5.4 Billion People
Solution to problem- Stop Creating Children
I guess this is some more misguided information.
Maybe you should try some kind of medicine.

  19. 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮

  20. where`d you get your facts a cereal box

  21. Yes, thanks for the typical rebuttals that have already been refuted numerous times. Insulting these scientists by calling them “deluded” really won’t make their research go away, however. And it’s quite obvious that you didn’t even read my blog, watch the videos or follow the links before you decided you were an expert on the subject.

As people such as hunters who actually have experience in the woods will tell you, it is rare to come across the carcasses of any large animal, including deer, elk and bears. Their remains are fairly quickly disposed of.

If you were truly interested, Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum and many others could show you the evidence, which includes:

    1. calls – a Washington state anthropologist insists that he’s heard the whoops of a primate in the deep forest
    2. footprints
    3. body prints
    4. sightings
    5. nests
    6. body parts (hand, lower leg of young one)
    7. upturned trees
    8. trails
    9. habitats
    10. feeding and hunting habits, such as breaking legs of deer, following salmon and elk routes
    11. possible hair (inconclusive DNA, “no known animal” )
    12. film, including the Patterson Film – no one has conclusively debunked it, and there is good reason to believe it’s real

Again, if one actually studies the subject rather than being an uninformed armchair critic, one would know what the evidence is. There are many good films, TV shows and books on the subject, so ignorance isn’t much of an excuse. You could start with Dr. Meldrum’s book, Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science ().

  22. Bigfoots are 100% not real!.! If you say they are then you are deluded! Show me the hard evidence. Why havent we captured or found any dead 1s or there body’s bones etc!.!

  23. hi big foot is real
 anyone wanna kiss me

    1. I will kiss you Lily.

  24. If so many people have seen big foot why is he not
Every person these days have a smart phone capable of recording at full HD resolutions. I know for a fact that if i saw something like the big foot i would be getting out my camera asap and try to follow it from a distance recording every moment. We live in 2012 how can it be that there are thousands of sightings and there are only 2 videos of the big foot one in 67 and one in the 80s. Come on americans start filiming!!!

    1. Bigfoot
Not everyone has an iPhone or even a phone for that matter. Not many people take a camera with them if they are searching for wood or hunting! There are videos of Bigfoot with iPhones on youtube and they are as clear as day! I believe Bigfoot is real and if anyone says he isn’t, Well they have their beliefs and I have mine!

  25. Scientist claims to have sequenced ‘Bigfoot’ DNA

‘Bigfoot’ Is Part Human, DNA Study Claims ()

A Texas vet claims DNA work suggests Bigfoot is a human relative that arose 15,000 years ago.
