Who is the Mahdi? The Israel-Palestine conflict in religious context

For years, there has been much talk about the Muslim Messiah, called the “Mahdi,” whose arrival is eagerly awaited by the ex-Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, among others. Indeed, the Iranian leadership reiterated its belief that the precious Mahdi would be arriving “soon,” a belief very similar to that of many Christians, who have been awaiting “Christ’s return” for the past nearly 2,000 years. Any day now, they have insisted since then. The same can be said of the supposed coming of the Muslim messiah, which has been imminent for centuries, according to fervent Islamic belief.

This “End Times” scenario is very important, because it overshadows practically everything that happens on a global scale – and because it threatens all life on Earth with its apocalyptic vision of Armageddon that so many millions are actually attempting to bring to fruition. Therefore, it is necessary to examine these beliefs in the light of day. Here I will give a brief summary of the origins of the Mahdi, so that we can see that the concept is yet another rehash of ancient mythology and should not be taken seriously enough to be acted upon and cause global chaos and mayhem, as is what the Iranian leaders have been doing in order to precipitate the Muslim messiah’s arrival.

“The messiah will not rise until fear, great earthquakes and sedition take place.”

–Imam Bagher

Pagan Origins

Despite fervent Islamist belief, the Mahdi – also called the “Twelfth Imam” by Shia Muslims like the Iranian leaders – is a pre-Islam Pagan concept:

Mahdi

One guided by, sent by, or given by the Moon-goddess Mah; Arabic-Moslem title of the promised Messiah… The Mahdi would be born of “the Virgin Paradise”…who embodied the spirit of the Moon-goddess on earth. His coming was so eagerly awaited that many historical Islamic leaders claimed to personify him.

After Arabia was converted to Islam, it was usually supposed that the Mahdi would be sent by Allah. But he was older than Islam. As his title suggests, he was a Son of the Moon in the most primitive times, when all Arabia was the territory of the lunar Goddess, one of whose names was Mah. (Barbara Walker, The Woman’s Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets, 571)

Israel versus Palestine

The Israel-Palestinian conflict is part of this End-Times scenario, as, according to Shiite doctrine, Israel must be destroyed for the Mahdi to return. In June 2014, just a month before Hamas – backed by Iran – began shelling Israel, Iranian’s supreme leader stated as much:

Iran Supreme Leader: The Islamic Messiah Is Coming Soon To Kill All Infidels

The fighting in Syria and the current infighting in Iraq and even the likely intrusion of the Islamic Republic’s army into Iraq to counter the Sunni rebellion, as per Shiite understanding of the hadiths, point to the imminent coming of Mahdi, but not before Israel is destroyed.

The supreme leader of the Islamic regime ruling Iran, promises in a newly released audiotape the destruction of Israel and Palestinians’ return to that land.

(Persian speaker Amil Imani confirmed this translation is accurate.)

The Hamas Covenant of 1988 calls for the destruction of Israel on behalf of Islam:

Hamas Covenant 1988

“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it” (The Martyr, Imam Hassan al-Banna, of blessed memory).

Dr. Ali Sina contends, however:

“It’s not just Shiites. All Muslims believe that, in the End Times, Muslims will kill all the Jews.”

In the meantime, let us not fall into this self-fulfilling prophecy, which is in reality a blueprint for destruction based on myth. Best to know who you are siding with in any debacle. The “humanitarian crisis” front is employed with great aplomb and deception. Are you helping to bring about this “End Times” scenario with your unwitting support of thugs?

  1. Oh, thank you so much for bringing up this Madhi/12th Imam ‘end times’ issue. It’s these ‘end times’/ apocalypse / Armageddon / tribulation / 2nd coming messiah crap that keeps Islam and Christianity alive today. People are unaware just how inaccurate it all is.

You’ve got a book coming out on these issues??? WOW!!! I very seriously can’t wait. This whole ‘end times’ crap needs to be addressed in such a way that only you can, Acharya S. I truly look forward to such an important project/book. I hope it gets turned into a documentary on DVD.

  3. fake
this is all wrong what you have put. the mahdi is not moon godess, he is a muslim follower or muhammad (pbuh), believes in Allah as the only god and not moon or sun god. also the iranian president is waiting for dajjal (the antichrist) whom he will think is mahdi but he will not realize the real mahdi.

    1. I understand
If I chose to believe, I too would believe that Iran mahdi is antimahdi, yes?

  5. all of you know nothing about islam and mahdi i,m iranian please dont talk about things that you dont know about them. if you wanna know the truth you must read qur,an just. all of you heard wrong things about islam and muslims .لا اله الا الله

    1. Hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahaaha! I’ve read this comment, almost verbatim, from Muslims so many thousands of times, I find it hilarious now. It’s always the same, always. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaa!

      1. Here’s how it goes:

        1. You don’t know anything about Islam.
        2. I’m this or that (Muslim) so I do know (implied).
        3. Don’t talk about things you don’t know about. Gotta have the supremacism thrown in for good measure.
        4. You must read the Quran. The only part you left out is that it must be read in original Arabic or it still doesn’t count.
        5. We’ve only heard lies about Islam, therefore we are deluded.

        Does that about cover it?

  6. Get your research straight
For All muslims and christians or jews who dont bother to do any research before making judgements on each other read the following.

    1. Hebrew, Aramaic (preceding hebrew) and Arabic are sister languages
There is no word such as “God” in these languages if many christians do rememeber their bible before it was translated into Roman and subsequently to English ALL DO REMEMBER THIS PHRASE FROM THE BIBLE ” ELLA ELLA LA MA TAMASSANI “(Very much intact in the new testament as well) translated O God O God Why have thou forsaken me.

Now two words ILLAHIM, ILLAHEE (HEBREW), ILLAHEE translates into god ILLAHEE is used for God in Arabic as well, however the word ALLAH is mostly used for God in Arabic (compare the phonotics ELLA and ALLAH) as it is used in the Koran.

2.Lastly name of Jesus in hebrew “ESHUA” (somehow took form Jehovah pronounced with an I not J), in Arabic Jesus is called “EESAA”, finally in Islam Jesus is the Messiah however Islam is purely monotheistic and does not equate JESUS with God (as in Christianity)
Islam says that jesus never died but it was made to seem so and before the day of judgement he will arrive again to destroy the DAJJAL (The closest match to the dajjal in Christianity would be the beast or the Anti Christ)

Imam Mahdi is certainly not the Messiah in Islam, however he is the Imam of the true followers of Islam and during his lifetime he will meet with Jesus as per the Sunnah books.

    1. What different
I need to know, if we are free thinkers, and wanting to be a true free thinker, what difference does it make what a believer in these things call it, I am confused when I read such statements from free thinkers who say they do not believe, yet write as one who believes, please help me, I am wanting to be a free thinker, but I am confused in such thing, I see in me that if I am not a believer in a entity, why do I speak on things that do not exist? Thank you.

      1. In my opinion, a freethinker is someone whose mind is not possessed by fear of exploring all ideas, including the concepts of whether there is or is not a god of any sort.

    2. Read an encyclopedia, play a million word games with translations, it doesn’t matter. It’s ALL myth, nothing more. The purpose of myth is to point to the inner truth, not be the truth.

  9. The world is presently at its most wicked. It is beyond human help. It requires only a nudge to implode and prepare for the divine ruler, the Saheb-ul-Zaman (the Mahdi, the Lord of the Age) to come and set it aright. It is the sacred duty and privilege of every Muslim to do all he can to hasten the death of the old world and the birth of the global Islamic Ummeh. Thus goes the thinking of Iran’s ruling mullahs and their hand-picked former president Mahmood Ahmadinejad.

The belief in supernatural intervention to set the world aright is scriptural to major religions, including Islam. The Jews have been earnestly supplicating the Lord for the Messiah to come; the Christians are impatiently awaiting the second coming of Christ; and, the Zoroastrians are convinced that Saoshayant is the one who shall come, defeat the trouble-making Ahriman—Satan—and make the creatures again pure.

The world is a laboratory where the experiment with Islam shows irrefutable results. To the extent that Islam rules any society, that society is stagnant, backward thinking, repressive and violent. The Islamic Republic of Iran represents the cutting edge for the newly petrodollar invigorated Islam. It is determined to complete its task of ending the world of “Dar-ul-Harb”—the non-Muslim world to be warred upon—and establishing the “Dar-ul-Solh,” or “Dar-ul-Salam”—the Muslim world of the Ummeh under the rule of the Mahdi. If achieving this aim hinges on the conflagration of the Third World War, the mullahs are happy to make it happen.

  10. So many people waiting for a second coming. I’m just waiting for the sun to go down so I can walk the dogs.

  11. Simply revel in the beauty and mystery of everyday life. You don’t need a second coming by any sort of deity. For instance, I just had a couple of scoops of Braum’s Amaretto Peach Charlotte premium ice cream. It was heavenly.
