First 'Human Rights Charter' is Persian

E-mail Print PDF

cyrus cylinder great human rights charterA 2,500-year-old clay cylinder bears what has been called the world's "first human rights charter" and was inscribed under the direction of the Persian ruler Cyrus the Great in 539 BCE. In the Greek Bible (Isaiah 45:1), Cyrus is called "Christ" ("...τῷ χριστῷ μου Κύρῳ...") or "the Lord's anointed" for his role in rescuing the Jews out of the "Babylonian Captivity."

In addition to that alleged good and godly deed, Cyrus committed to writing what is believed to be the earliest charter establishing human rights so far found. Thus, Persia - or Iran - is ironically and tragically the birthplace of a remarkable tradition of human rights. Contrast that amazing fact with the state in which the ancient and noble Persian people live today, under Islamic fanaticism, with a severe restriction of many basic rights we take for granted.

Iran made to wait for loan of ancient treasure after 'remarkable' discovery

THE "remarkable" discovery of two small fragments of inscribed clay at the British Museum will cast vital new light on a 2,500-year-old cylinder bearing what is often described as the world's first charter of human rights, it has been claimed....

The cylinder was written in 539BC on the orders of Cyrus the Great, the founder of the Persian empire, after he conquered Babylon and freed the Jews and other peoples held captive there, while ushering in religious freedom.

Here an ancient Persian man deemed "Messiah" and "Christ" by a group of people is likewise renowned for "ushering in religious freedom" and inscribing one of the world's first known documents addressing human rights. Meanwhile his modern heirs are infamous as some of the worst human-rights abusers in the world, with little to no religious freedom under their tyranny. Who can honestly contend that human creation progresses linearly rather than cyclically?

It is time for a resurgence of the Persian spirit, as exemplified in the legends of Cyrus the Great and his civilized charter for human rights.

Yes, and we can read on this text, Cyrus says that Mardouk give him the royalty and victory, a "henotheist" God, not Yahweh...

It's amazing how 'religion', inspite of it's 'necessity' to keep the sheep in order, dumbs down those who never question 'faith and belief' as tricks of the 'religious salesmen' to corral the blinded!

<img src=ide:' title=':side:' class='postemoticon' /> uas long as man is unconscious- anything and everything will happen- over and over again. these are the eventually events of a world created by the dual nature of the human mind- as long as man is controled by the mind-driven leaders of the world - disaster is always lurking around the corner

and once man understands the true nature of the mind then he will seek a way a method to go beyond his mind to be in his true nature not the nature of an ego- self - mind which is always an illusion- which is always in activity to increase its own security- which by the very nature of it can only be nothing more than the imagination smoking up his reality- this ego-self- is the clouds - and reality is the sky.

Wow, this is very interesting news!

Where else would one learn that Cyrus was called "Christ" ("...τῷ χριστῷ μου Κύρῳ...";) or "the Lord's anointed"

    Thanks Acharya!

Would love to see Iran and other Muslim nations reform Islam around human rights rather than religious slavery.

Maybe cyrus didnt free the jews as such but more like got sick of them and booted their asses out. so he truly should be reviled for setting the miscreants loose on the rest of us.didnt they create the babylonian talmud while enjoying the hospitality of the babylonians?seems a easy ca;tivity to write such a large piece of meandering blasphemy and rules for non jews and jews alike.as to the dead sea scrolls the israeli government fired the best translator they first hired because he was translating it in the truest way he was able to and it didnt sit right with what they wanted to accomplish with these acrolly ol ohs.stil to this day the entire thing is kept from a full disclosure and not freely given access to same with the other nim hamadi thingeries as well.religion may be not so well liked due to mans interference in it, but a knowledge of good snd evil and a awareness of your creator and your actions here on earth may have sioemthing to do with what happens when we shed this body , we all know instinctively what is good and right and it is only by fooling ourselves we try to wriggle out of self centered and nasty actions that affect our fellows negatively. yes we all know we all know what is naughty or nice jusy like the song goes.
  • mark  - prophetic casuality
Iranian human rights are not the only casuality of this peaceful religion. Look at ethiopia, sudan, somalia - full fledged developed civilizations when mohammad heard voices - are now reduced to dust; those civilizations crumbled and people left with nothing except islam and moslim rapes in search of heaven (bahisht). When we humans will learn..............

    To Mark:
I totally agree with you! If those places were as desolate as they seemed to be...they would not have made it to today.

Islam, Christianity and its original source "Judaism" are what has caused the majority of problems in the world.
  • mark  - Abonden Islam
Be careful folks what trouble you get into Modification of Islam is not allowed. It is the ultimate truth or lie from allah and you must accept it as it is.
The best bet is to say bye bye mohammad you will be better off altogether without him. Things done by halfs are never done right. Get rid of this disease for humanity sake. Thanks

  • dariush
Thanks for the props (I'm Persian)! While I dont agree with everything in many of your books, the fact that Christians and Jews claim the exclusive rights to morality sickens me.

@Susy Q - People attach a godlike deism to the word Christ, but as the translation of Messiah indicates, it means just that, anointed one, a term it has taken on the connotation of deity over the years. It's plain as day, in the old testament, Cyrus is referred to as a messiah. Not even evangelical translations of the Bible attempt to hide this fact. Read the Bible the truth is in there, it's all in the interpretations.
  • Buny
Cyrus was not Muslim, He was Zoroastrian, a monotheistic religion that goes back perhaps 8000 years depending upon who you listen to. He over threw Babylon without shedding one drop of blood. As far as I am concerned the story being in the desert for 40 years is about cyrus and Babylon not Egypt and moses. These people were the original Aryans, white skin, blue or green eyes, blond hair. Which would fit in with what Stitchin wrote about. When the Muslims invaded most of them went to India. Parsi. Freddy Mercury was Zoroastrian.
  • Acharya S
    Thank you.

No one has suggested that Cyrus was a Muslim. Islam was not created until over 1,000 years later.

Unfortunately, Zoroastrianism is not devoid of its own problems, including sexism.
  • Dariush
Please dont turn this into some racial nonsense. I am 100% persian and have olive skin brown eyes and black hair. The Term Aryan was stolen by the Nazis and only means purity. Sad to say, but Europeans were worshiping trees and rocks while Persians, Babylonians, and the Chinese were building empires. You do not own our history!
  • Tony  - Cyrus
If you ever read the old testament this would not be news. It only bolsters the authenticity of scripture.
