Tony Blair: Fighting Islamism – A Defining Challenge of Our Time

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair gave a landmark speech yesterday calling on the world to unite against Islamism.

"Tony Blair, the Former British Prime Minister, delivered a keynote speech at Bloomberg HQ in London entitled 'Why the Middle East Still Matters.' In it he described radical Islam as the greatest threat facing the world today."

"He urged the West and indeed the entire world, to unite against the ideology Islamic extremism."

"Perhaps this statement by Blair sums up the message of his keynote speech best: "When we consider the defining challenges of our time, surely this one should be up there along with the challenge of the environment or economic instability.""

Convert, Pay Tax, Or Die, Islamic State Warns Christians

"(Reuters) - Islamist insurgents have issued an ultimatum to northern Iraq's dwindling Christian population to either convert to Islam, pay a religious levy or face death, according to a statement distributed in the militant-controlled city of Mosul.

The statement issued by the Islamic State, the al Qaeda offshoot which led last month's lightning assault to capture swathes of north Iraq, and seen by Reuters, said the ruling would come into effect on Saturday.

It said Christians who wanted to remain in the "caliphate" that the Islamic State declared this month in parts of Iraq and Syria must agree to abide by terms of a "dhimma" contract - a historic practice under which non-Muslims were protected in Muslim lands in return for a special levy known as "jizya".

"We offer them three choices: Islam; the dhimma contract - involving payment of jizya; if they refuse this they will have nothing but the sword," the announcement said....."

Calling yourself an “Islamophobe” in France can get you a jail sentence

Native White French under Attack in Muslim Areas

Muslim group ISIS vows to ‘Raise The Flag Of Allah in The White House’ (video)

"I say to America that the Islamic Caliphate has been established," Abu Mosa, a spokesman for the terror group known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), told VICE Media in a video interview ... "We will humiliate them everywhere, God willing, and we will raise the flag of Allah in the White House," he added.

The Spread of the Caliphate: The Islamic State (Part 1)

Quote:
"The Islamic State, a hardline Sunni jihadist group that formerly had ties to al Qaeda, has conquered large swathes of Iraq and Syria. Previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the group has announced their intention to reestablish the caliphate and declared their leader, the shadowy Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as the caliph.

Flush with cash and US weapons seized during recent advances in Iraq, the Islamic State’s expansion shows no sign of slowing down. In the first week of August alone, Islamic State fighters have taken over new areas in northern Iraq, encroaching on Kurdish territory and sending Christians and other minorities fleeing as reports of massacres emerged.

Elsewhere in territory it has held for some time, the Islamic State has gone about consolidating power and setting up a government dictated by Sharia law. While the world may not recognize the Islamic State, in the Syrian city of Raqqa, the group is already in the process of building a functioning regime.

VICE News reporter Medyan Dairieh spent three weeks embedded with the Islamic State, gaining unprecedented access to the group in Iraq and Syria as the first and only journalist to document its inner workings. In part one, Dairieh heads to the frontline in Raqqa, where Islamic State fighters are laying siege to the Syrian Army’s division 17 base.

Obama Condemns ISIS for James Foley Killing: ‘Their Ideology Is Bankrupt’

I agree with President Obama except for this one sentence:

"No faith teaches people to massacre innocents."

Actually, Islam allows for the slaughter of innocent people.

Quote:
The Qur'an tells us: "not to make friendship with Jews and Christians" (5:51), "kill the disbelievers wherever we find them" (2:191), "murder them and treat them harshly" (9:123), "fight and slay the Pagans, seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem" (9:5). The Qur'an demands that we fight the unbelievers, and promises "If there are twenty amongst you, you will vanquish two hundred: if a hundred, you will vanquish a thousand of them" (8:65).

You Can't Understand ISIS If You Don't Know the History of Wahhabism in Saudi Arabia

One commenter says:

Quote:
"The 1.6 Billion Muslims of the world provide financial backing and war matériel to the broad spectrum of differently branded Islamic extremist groups that are taking action to kill or exterminate those where they can: ISIS, Hamas, al Qaeda, Wahabbists, Syria, Fatah (PLO), Hezbollah, Muslim Brotherhood, Boko Haram, Jemaah Islamiah, etc.

They share a common goal:

The Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers for the sake of Islamic rule. Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding. Muslims who do not join the fight are called 'hypocrites' and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter.

Unlike nearly all of the Old Testament verses of violence, the verses of violence in the Quran are mostly open-ended, meaning that they are not restrained by the historical context of the surrounding text. They are part of the eternal, unchanging word of Allah, and just as relevant or subjective as anything else in the Quran."

This ideology exists and endures. It was formulated and honed by Muslims. Latter-day believers who wish to revive and realize it are in fact, true Muslims. That’s all there is to it, and the sooner Muslims realize the origin of the ideology, its moral bankruptcy and its potential for devastation, the better it will be for them and the rest of the world."

The ultimate goal in the Koran according to Muslims themselves is to have complete dominion over the entire world. The ideology of Islam should be banned in every western country in the world as it should be considered treasonous. The ideology of Islam is a human and earth hating ideology that deserves respect from no one. Those who attempt to claim ISIL and others similar are not Islamic have already begun to SUBMIT to Islam. It utterly disgusts me to see President Obama, Secretary of State Kerry, countless news journalists and media outlets convert into Dhimwits. It's naive and an embarrassment to all western countries to continue to pretend ISIL and other similar groups are not Islamic. They are and they say so themselves and so does the Koran. How can the West defeat such an ideology when the West fails miserably to understand the core of the problem is the ideology of Islam? How can our Western leaders protect us when they fail to understand that basic fact?

Quotes from Muslims:

"We are not here to adopt Western values, we are here to colonize the U.S. (and Canada) and spread Islamic sharia law... Canada has one of the easiest legal systems to penetrate and advance sharia from within ... but if that doesn’t work, we won’t hesitate to use violent jihad."

President Obama's UN General Assembly Address September 24, 2014

Full text of President Obama’s 2014 address to the United Nations General Assembly

I can appreciate President Obama's speech at the UN but, we really need to go far further to address fanatical religious ideologies like that of Islam than the President can publicly comment on least the US be accused of having a "war with Islam," however, I think Obama came about as close to that as they possibly could at this point. The results could potentially be similar so, kudos to the US and President Obama. The US and the rest of the world really need to push for a Separation of Mosque and State and a First Amendment across the entire Muslim world to help bring them into the 21st century. That is what tamed Christianity in America preventing a theocracy. I would also recommend an updated version of the Koran with all the violence and hate removed.

Our secular US Constitution has served us well and has, in essence, tamed Christianity and it can do the same for the Muslim world. We have other problems right now such as the Faith-Based Initiative but, that is mostly due to corruption, which is in the process of being addressed and the rest of the world can also follow suit:

Mayday PAC for Campaign Finance Reform

The world would be more peaceful, safer and a more secure place if the world adopted a separation between religion and the state in order to keep fanatical religious ideologies at bay and by not allowing extremists get into positions of power in the first place. The whole world should agree to stop paying ransom too as it only creates a lucrative business for terrorists.

However, there was a victory in the passing of Anti-terror Resolution 2178:

U.N. Security Council Unanimously Passes Anti-Terrorism Resolution

In Obama's speech he quoted:

Quote:
"Terror is not a new weapon. Throughout history it has been used by those who could not prevail, either by persuasion or example. But inevitably they fail, either because men are not afraid to die for a life worth living, or because the terrorists themselves came to realize that free men cannot be frightened by threats, and that aggression would meet its own response. And it is in the light of that history that every nation today should know, be he friend or foe, that the United States has both the will and the weapons to join free men in standing up to their responsibilities."

- President John F. Kennedy to the UN General Assembly, September 25, 1961

PM Netanyahu Speech at the United Nations General Assembly Sept 29, 2014

Here is the Transcript

I'll pluck out a few quotes that really stand out to me:

"You know the famous American saying, all politics is local? For the militant Islamists, all politics is global, because their ultimate goal is to dominate the world. Now, that threat might seem exaggerated to some since it starts out small, like a cancer that attacks a particular part of the body. But left unchecked, the cancer grows, metastasizing over wider and wider areas. To protect the peace and security of the world, we must remove this cancer before it’s too late."

"ISIS and Hamas are branches of the same poisonous tree."

"ISIS and Hamas share a fanatical creed, which they both seek to impose well beyond the territory under their control. Listen to ISIS’ self-declared caliph, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. This is what he said two months ago: A day will soon come when the Muslim will walk everywhere as a master. The Muslims will cause the world to hear and understand the meaning of terrorism and destroy the idol of democracy. Now listen to Khaled Mashal, the leader of Hamas. He proclaims a similar vision of the future: We say this to the West -- by Allah you will be defeated. Tomorrow our nation will sit on the throne of the world."

"So when it comes to their ultimate goals, Hamas is ISIS and ISIS is Hamas. And what they share in common all militant Islamists share in common. Boko Haram in Nigeria, Al-Shabab in Somalia, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Al-Nusra in Syria, the Mahdi army in Iraq, and the Al-Qaida branches in Yemen, Libya, the Philippines, India and elsewhere."

"Some are radical Sunnis, some are radical Shiites, some want to restore a pre-medieval caliphate from the seventh century, others want to trigger the apocalyptic return of an imam from the ninth century. They operate in different lands, they target different victims and they even kill each other in their battle for supremacy. But they all share a fanatic ideology. They all seek to create ever-expanding enclaves of militant Islam where there is no freedom and no tolerance, where women are treated as chattel, Christians are decimated and minorities are subjugated, sometimes given the stark choice, convert or die. For them, anyone can be considered an infidel, including fellow Muslims."

"Ladies and gentlemen, militant Islam’s ambition to dominate the world seems mad, but so too did the global ambitions of another fanatic ideology that swept into power eight decades ago. The Nazis believed in a master race. The militant Islamists believe in a master faith. They just disagree who among them will be the master of the master faith. That’s what they truly disagree about. And therefore, the question before us is whether militant Islam will have the power to realize its unbridled ambitions."

"There is one place where that could soon happen -- the Islamic State of Iran. For 35 years, Iran has relentlessly pursued the global mission which was set forth by its founding ruler, Ayatollah Khomeini, in these words. “We will export our revolution to the entire world until the cry ‘there is no god but Allah’ will echo throughout the world over.” And ever since, the regime’s brutal enforcers, Iran’s revolutionary guards, have done exactly that.

Listen to its current commander, General Mohammad Ali Jafari. And he clearly stated his goal. He said “Our imam did not limit the Islamic revolution to this country, our duty is to prepare the way for an Islamic world government.”

Iran’s President Rohani stood here last week and shed crocodile tears over what he called the globalization of terrorism. Maybe he should spare us those phony tears and have a word instead with the commanders of Iran’s revolutionary guards. He could ask them to call off Iran’s global terror campaign, which has included attacks in two dozen countries on five continents since 2011 alone."

"Ladies and gentlemen, the fight against militant Islam is indivisible. When militant Islam succeeds anywhere, it’s emboldened everywhere. When it suffers a blow in one place, it’s set back in every place. That’s why Israel’s fight against Hamas is not just our fight, it’s your fight. Israel is fighting a fanaticism today that your countries may be forced to fight tomorrow."

"Here is what Hamas did. Hamas embedded its missile batteries in residential areas and told Palestinians to ignore Israel’s warnings to leave. And just in case people didn’t get the message, they executed Palestinian civilians in Gaza who dared to protest. And no less reprehensible, Hamas deliberately placed its rockets where Palestinian children live and play. Let me show you a photograph. It was taken by a France 24 crew during the recent conflict. It shows two Hamas rocket launchers, which were used to attack us. You see three children playing next to them. Hamas deliberately put its rockets in hundreds of residential areas like this -- hundreds of them. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a war crime."

"Ladies and gentlemen, as Israel’s children huddle in bomb shelters and Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense knocked Hamas rockets out of the sky, the profound moral difference between Israel and Hamas couldn’t have been clearer. Israel was using its missiles to protect its children. Hamas was using its children to protect its missiles."

Salman Rushdie condemns 'hate-filled rhetoric' of Islamic fanaticism

Salman Rushdie says all religions have their extremists but "the overwhelming weight of the problem lies in the world of Islam"

Rushdie's publication of The Satanic Verses in 1989 led to him being placed under a fatwa by Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran, who deemed it to be blasphemous

Accusations of 'Islamophobia' are being levelled at anyone who dares to speak out against the "hate-filled rhetoric" of Islamic fanaticism, Salman Rushdie has claimed in a speech condemning Isil and "this new age of religious mayhem".

Rushdie voiced his fears that the language of "jihadi-cool" is seducing young British Muslims, many via Twitter and YouTube, into joining the "decapitating barbarianism" of Isil, the group also referred to as Islamic State or Isis.

Rushdie defined "jihadi-cool" as "the deformed medievalist language of fanaticism, backed up by modern weaponry", saying: "It's hard not to conclude that this hate-filled religious rhetoric, pouring from the mouths of ruthless fanatics into the ears of angry young men, has become the most dangerous new weapon in the world today".

He said: "A word I dislike greatly, 'Islamophobia', has been coined to discredit those who point at these excesses, by labelling them as bigots. But in the first place, if I don't like your ideas, it must be acceptable for me to say so, just as it is acceptable for you to say that you don't like mine. Ideas cannot be ring-fenced just because they claim to have this or that fictional sky god on their side.

"And in the second place, it's important to remember that most of those who suffer under the yoke of the new Islamic fanaticism are other Muslims...

"It is right to feel phobia towards such matters. As several commentators have said, what is being killed in Iraq is not just human beings, but a whole culture. To feel aversion towards such a force is not bigotry. It is the only possible response to the horror of events.

Dutch politician, Machiel de Graaf PVV WE MUST CLOSE ALL MOSQUES

"The Netherlands must be de-Islamised, all mosques must be closed, Jihadists must be expelled from the country and never allowed back, the borders must be closed to people from Islamic countries, the government must commit itself to voluntary migration to Muslim countries, criminals with a double passport must be expelled, and only if these measures are implemented will the Netherlands see a positive change."

Muslims Who Don't Like Free Speech Can 'F**k Off' Says Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb

Mayor to Dutch Muslims: 'Don't Like Freedom F**K Off' on LIVE TV

Ahmed Aboutaleb told NewsHour of his anger at the refusal of a number of Muslims to adapt to their new surroundings, which he said he has done after living in Holland since 1976.

"It is incomprehensible that you can turn against freedom... But if you don't like freedom, for heaven's sake pack your bags and leave," he said.

"There may be a place in the world where you can be yourself, be honest with yourself and do not go and kill innocent journalists. And if you do not like it here because humorists you do not like make a newspaper, may I then say you can f**k off.

"This is stupid, this so incomprehensible. Vanish from the Netherlands if you cannot find your place here. All those well-meaning Muslims here will now be stared at".

Charlie Hebdo Editor Slams News Organizations For Not Publishing Cartoons

"Gerard Biard, editor-in-chief of the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, on Sunday denounced the Western publications that have declined to reprint his paper’s controversial cartoons in the aftermath of the Jan. 7 mass shooting at Charlie Hebdo's Paris office.

“This cartoon is not just a little figure. It’s a symbol. It’s the symbol of freedom of speech, of freedom of religion, of democracy and secularism,” Biard told NBC’s "Meet the Press" on Sunday. “When they refuse to publish this cartoon, when they blur it out, when they decline to publish it, they blur out democracy.”

Biard said he was in London at the time of the shooting, when two masked gunmen stormed the publication’s headquarters and killed 12 people, including editor Stéphane Charbonnier and several of the paper's cartoonists and editorialists.

The attack, for which the group al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claimed responsibility this week, was an apparent response to the paper’s history of publishing cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.

In the days since the attack, several news organizations have declined to reprint the controversial drawings in full, and have also chosen not to reprint the paper’s first cover since Jan. 7, which depicts Muhammad weeping and holding a sign that reads “I am Charlie.” A headline above the drawing reads “All Is Forgiven.”

“Every time that we draw a cartoon of Muhammad, every time that we draw a cartoon of the prophet, every time that we draw a cartoon of God, we defend the freedom of religion,” Biard said Sunday. “It is also the freedom of speech. Religion should not be a political argument.”

Biard’s comments come just days after Pope Francis criticized Charlie Hebdo's decision to publish the provocative cartoons, suggesting the newspaper had gone too far in its depictions of the prophet.

“One cannot provoke; one cannot insult other people’s faith; one cannot make fun of faith,” the pope said last week.

But Biard suggested Sunday that following the pope's admonition would set a dangerous precedent.

“We do not kill anyone. We must stop conflating the murderers and the victims. We must stop declaring that those who write and draw are provocateurs, that they are throwing gas on the fire,” he said. “We must not place thinkers and artists in the same categories as murderers.”

The shooting at Charlie Hebdo's offices set off a period of chaos in France, as the gunmen, brothers Chérif and Saïd Kouachi, fled the scene and holed up in an industrial print shop. A third suspect took hostages in a Paris grocery store. Four hostages were killed before police were able to rescue the remaining 15.

All three suspects were killed by police. A fourth suspect, a woman, has reportedly escaped to Syria through Turkey."

* added edit 1-23-2015 - I like how both the above and below emphasize the need for more secularism to balance religion:

Quote:
Rabbi David Rosen Reveals The Most Dangerous Thing For Religion

"The International Director of Interreligious Affairs at the American Jewish Committee, Rosen spoke with HuffPost Live's Alyona Minkovski during the World Economic Forum in Davos about the major challenges facing religion today.

"The most dangerous thing for religion is when it's married to political power," Rosen argued. "When it's an instrument of political power then it betrays its own message."

The rise of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, as well as the increasing presence of far-right parties in several European countries, have brought home the danger the world faces when religion becomes politically radicalized. One thing that can prevent religion from falling into this trap, the rabbi said, is a healthy pairing with secularism.

"Secular and religion shouldn't be seen as antithetical," Rosen said. "I think the secular society is critically important for religion, just as religion needs to give moral content and spiritual direction to secular society.""

"We are not here to adopt Western values, we are here to colonize the U.S. (and Canada) and spread Islamic sharia law... Canada has one of the easiest legal systems to penetrate and advance sharia from within ... but if that doesn’t work, we won’t hesitate to use violent jihad."

A very daring editorial cartoon of the day posted on USA Today on 2/2/15. This comparison is not inappropriate, in consideration of the Jew-hatred inculcated by Islam's foundational texts; the facts of Hitler's Muslim legions and the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem al-Husseini as one of his allies; the "ethnic cleansing" of Jews from the Middle East during the 1930s to 1960s; and the current rampant "anti-Semitism" in Europe that is causing Jews to flee from there once again.

Antisemitism in the Arab world

"While antisemitism has increased in the wake of the Arab-Israeli conflict, there were pogroms against Jews prior to the foundation of Israel, including Nazi-inspired pogroms in Algeria in the 1930s, and attacks on the Jews of Iraq and Libya in the 1940s. In 1941, 180 Jews were murdered and 700 were injured in the anti-Jewish riots known as the Farhud. Four hundred Jews were injured in violent demonstrations in Egypt in 1945 and Jewish property was vandalized and looted. In Libya, 130 Jews were killed and 266 injured. In December 1947, 13 Jews were killed in Damascus, including 8 children, and 26 were injured. In Aleppo, rioting resulted in dozens of Jewish casualties, damage to 150 Jewish homes, and the torching of 5 schools and 10 synagogues. In Yemen, 97 Jews were murdered and 120 injured."
