Facebook to allow beheading videos to ‘reduce violence’

UPDATE: Facebook has now reinstated my account! THANKS SO VERY MUCH TO FB AND ALL SUPPORTERS! Please ignore the petition, which will now be closed. This blog post will be left as a chronicle of the story.

UPDATE: Mythicist Milwaukee has created a post with my statement below on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MythicistMKE/posts/531727783586698 Please visit, like and share. Don’t forget to use hashtags #AcharyaS and/or #DMMurdock in FB or Twitter posts about me, where possible.

Facebook has announced it will be allowing violent and graphic decapitation videos on its site, claiming that “raising awareness” of this violence will “help reduce it.”

If such is the case, then allowing graphic photojournalism of an anthropological event, such as virginity testing of little girls in Africa, should have the same effect. Indeed, it was always my intent to raise awareness to this issue in order to help reduce it.

My FB banning stands, despite the thousands of petition signatures and emails to Facebook’s admins and despite this interestingly timed news about the beheading videos. Their now clearly arbitrary censorship is illogical and offensive, frankly.

Facebook, please reinstate my account ASAP. You now have the testimony of hundreds of users that my FB page was highly valuable for the same social activism that you purport to be promoting with this new policy. The message now is that graphic VIOLENCE is okay, but graphic images of human bodies are not okay. I must also ask, since when does desensitizing people to such gore help reduce it? If that’s the case, why not have violent video games in every classroom?

I’m reminded also of the New Yorker banning, dubbed “Nipplegate,” in which cartoon nipples were deemed offensive. The powerful New Yorker account was reinstated – why not mine? Cartoon nipples and anthropological virginity testing are over-the-top offenses, but posting what amounts to “snuff films” is not? What if the beheading victims are nude?

I ask again, please give me my account back! I will abide by FB’s rules, although I will not be posting decapitation videos at any time, regardless of whether or not they “help reduce violence.”

Meanwhile, Facebook allows a horrible image of violence committed against women in the Congo, one of the most dangerous places on Earth to be a woman – I ask you, how is this FB page not in violation of the same TOS my profile purportedly was? WARNING: Gruesome images at the link below.

  1. That is so fu**ing disgusting. Who would want to watch that video? There’s no point in going through the internal armageddeon of watching that. It’s like are there people who are “on the fence” about the beheading issue that will be swayed by seeing a video of it?

And I hope they do re-instate your account Acharya, but facebook is so big, it must be pretty hard to rattle their chain. Maybe you can swing back over to MySpace. I think it has about 4,000 people left. :P

  2. Who owns Facebook
Perhaps Al Qaeda owns Facebook. That would explain why it is happy to show what happens to women who don’t do as they’re told, and ban women who show what happens to little girls in benighted places like Nigeria (or South Africa, as the case may be). It would also explain why they are morally confused.

  3. terrible…
    This is terrible…

Dear Acharya, I hope and pray that the change.org petition page becomes a terrible terrible embarrassment for Facebook.

It has and is gaining momentum pretty rapidly. Nice to see.

  5. NMO …
It does appear that the absurd world of the New Muslim Order is taking/has taken over everything. Maybe FB rejecting you will be a good thing. It is obviously run by some deeply pathological people. Perhaps, it will be best to have them in your rearview mirror. Too bad they s**t on the best tool for free speech ever invented, but it does seem to be the way of such entities. They throw it out there, let us get used to it, then they start tightening the screws. It’s as old as time. Allowing beheading videos is obviously nothing more than Islamopandering and pandering to others with mental illness. That is, I’m in complete agreement with river’s comment.

When I was on FB, there was a group that pretended to be some sort of intellectual outfit. Maybe it was ‘Big Think’, or some such and they kept bringing up the subject of ‘Is Necrophilia OK’ or “Is There Anything Wrong With Necrophilia’, something like that. I asked them why they were Islamopandering, because I know of no other group on the planet, except Muslims, who would be interested in such a question except maybe a few inhabitants of mental institutions. And, to pretend that such a question is an issue that deserves academic attention?!

This is a similar type of perverse issue with FB that you’re having. There is something going on behind the scenes that you’re not being told. Apparently, it’s evil, perverse, rich and powerful. Perhaps I’m wrong, but this reeks of Muslim influence.

  6. Feeds and validates …
” Facebook has announced it will be allowing violent and graphic decapitation videos on its site, claiming that “raising awareness” of this violence will “help reduce it.” “

Such only feeds the blood lust of decapitator types, typically Muslims, and validates the act of decapitation. If they’d ever watched a video of Muslims decapitating or stoning someone, they would know that Muslims typically act exactly like chimps hunting down Vervet monkeys and ripping them to bloody shreds. Apparently, no one at FB has ever taken Psychology 101 either.

  7. Of course …
Watching decapitation videos would desensitize us to it. This is exactly what Muslims do to their male children. They force them to watch the slaughter of animals, then force them to slaughter animals. There are also videos of Muslims forcing their boys to decapitate other humans, you know, while chanting Allahu akbar, which makes it OK. So, by the time they’re adults, they can commit heinous acts of human slaughter with nary a change in their heart rate, with impunity. And, that’s what bothers me the most, the impunity with which they can end another human’s life. This is what we’re facing, peeps, if we don’t wake up. If I was paranoid, I’d say this is being done on purpose and that we’re in a lot of trouble.

That wasn’t too snarky, was it?

  8. Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re working with?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m having a hard time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most
blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S Apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
