Dionysian phallus festival held in Athens for the first time in 2,000 years

Oh my! How very Bacchic.

Wait until everyone gets a load of my Moses book, which has an extensive discussion of Dionysus. I will be doing a Christ in Greece book comparing Jesus with Greek deities, including and especially Dionysus. Amazing stuff.

So glad to see this revival. They need my Dionysus material translated into Greek! Right next to the Akropolis – that is so cool! I wish I were there. Η καρδιά μου είναι στην Ελλάδα!

Phallephoria, the carrying of a phallus in procession in honor of Dionysus. For the first time after almost two thousand years, Phallephoria was celebrated in Athens.

I don’t know that it’s the first such procession in nearly 2,000 years, since Dionysus remained popular for centuries into the common era, but it’s great to witness the release of the Greek gods after almost that long being trapped under a Christian facade.
