  • Peter  - dishonor murder
I want all the men involved in these murders of women and girls to be promptly executed. This is not tolerable; we must wipe out the culprits. This is not culture; it is a crime: A crime against all humanity!
  • Zyconoclast  - Zyconoclast
It is not only muslems that like to physically brutalise people. In Australia there is a group of primitive desert dwellers (sound familia?) who have a thing called 'pay back' where there they can operate outside normal Australian law and injure, bash & kill each other to make things right.
  • Jamieson  - Honour killings
It is a tragedy, a horror, a crime against humanity. The details of the murders are atrocious, women beheaded, burned to death, stabbed, electrocuted, strangled and buried alive for the “honour” of their families.

20,000 Women a year are murdered in the name of honour
19; this is the age of Shawbo Ali she was taken by her family to a picnic in Dokan, Iraq. She was shot seven times. Their reasoning? They found an unfamiliar number in her phone.
73% of females know the main or only offender in the offence. 48% were killed by their partner, ex-partner, or lover.
12; The age of this young girl hung from a tree in her front yard by her parents.

Their reasons Tradition and religion. A woman who had been raped brings shame to her family just as she would when engaging in a consensual relationship. "A woman raped shames the community and dishonours the man, although it doesn’t dishonour the rapist", according to a charged honour killer.

    What is honour?

Honour is the evaluation of a person's trustworthiness and social status based on that individual's actions. Honour is deemed exactly what determines a person's character: whether or not the person reflects honesty, respect, integrity, or fairness.

How about a 13 year-old in Somalia, who in front of a thousand people, was dragged to a hole in the ground whilst screaming, “I’m not going, don’t kill me” she was then buried up to her neck and stoned by 50 men for adultery. After 10 minutes, she was dug up, found to be still alive and put back in the hole for further stoning. Her crime? She had been raped by three men.

Think about it. Imagine living everyday like its your last. You don’t want to look at someone the wrong way or even smile at another man, because who knows you could be next.

    What honour?
There are millions of women living, praying for the day they can somewhat live a life where they will be treated like 21st century human beings. Where they will have the freedom of speech and where they won’t be scared of their family, they won’t be scared of the people that should truly love them, and where they won’t be scared of living life the way they deserve.

Is it too much to ask?
Picture the way life would of been for this bright, bubbly teenager living in London.
Life was going perfect for her, everything going her way. Except for when one day in 2002 she was stabbed to death, she was only 16.
But why, why was her life cut so short, what could a 16 year old really do to provoke murder?
She fell in love with a Christian man and her father disapproved.

Although there is one point i would really like to emphasize on honor killing is a punishment for the women who act not according to their religion, tradition or even the culture which is imposed on them. To be more precise it is a punishment for the ones who want and wish to run their own life, choose their own lifestyle and choose their own partner, the one they truly love. The victims are women and young girls who just want to be free.

Mothers, Wives, Aunties, Cousins, Sisters, Girlfriends, Daughters Lost, forever.

Life is never so hard that a life should be lost. A loved one, a partner, a friend. Forever gone, now only in our pictures and forever in our heart.
But what about the murderers what happens to them 50% of them go un-seen and forgotten about. Is it that they never mattered, is it just another life?

  • Muslim Sister UK  - Muslim Sister Disgraced
I am fortunate to have parents who do not have that mentality. Islam does not teach such horrific things and people who commit these crimes should be skinned, lashed and later burnt. i find this extremely distressing that even in this day and age we have ANIMALS behaving in such a manner, giving us all a bad name.
  • fistfighter  - Have you read the Koran?
I suggest you read the Koran if you truly believe it does not preach these "things". You might then be quite surprised to find that Islam is not so loving after all in its fundamental dogma.
  • Acharya S
You mean THIS Koran? Agreed! :X

    Freedom of Religion

There shall be no compulsion in religion.

    Quran 2:236; "The Cow," Dawood, p. 41

The only true faith in God's sight is Islam.

    Quran 3:19; "The Imrans," Dawood, p. 51

Abraham and Ishmael built the House and dedicated it, saying . . . "Lord, make us submissive to You; make of our descendants a nation that will submit to You..."

    Quran 2:127-129, "The Cow," Dawood, p. 19

He that chooses a religion over Islam, it will not be accepted from him and in the world to come he will be one of the lost.
    Quran 3:85, "The Imrans," Dawood, p. 60

This Book is not to be doubted.... As for the unbelievers, it is the same whether or not you forewarn them; they will not have faith. God has set a seal upon their hearts and ears; their sight is dimmed and grievous punishment awaits them.

Quran 2:1/2:6-2:10; "The Cow," Dawood, pp. 1-2

If you doubt what We have revealed to Our servant, produce one chapter comparable to it. Call upon your idols to assist you, if what you say be true. But if you fail (as you are sure to fail) then guard yourselves against the Fire whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the unbelievers.

    Quran 2:23-4, "The Cow," Dawood, p. 3

It is not for true believers men or women to take their choice in the affairs if God and His apostle decree otherwise. He that disobeys God and His apostle strays far indeed.

Quran 33:36, "The Confederate Tribes," Dawood, p. 422

It is unlawful for a believer to kill another believer, accidents excepted. He that accidently kills a believer must free one Muslim slave... He that kills a believer by design shall burn in Hell for ever. He shall incur the wrath of God, who will lay His curse on him and prepare for him a mighty scourge.

    Quran 4:92-93; "Women," Dawood, p. 92

We have made you a just nation, so that you may testify against mankind and that your own Apostle may testify against you.

    Quran 2:142-3; "The Cow, Dawood, p. 21

You are the noblest community ever raised up for mankind. You enjoin justice and forbid evil. You believe in God.
Had the People of the Book [Jews and Christians] accepted the Faith, it would surely have been better for them. Some are true believers, but most are evil-doers.

    Quran 3:110-111, "The Imrans," Dawood, p. 63

    Infidels, Unbelievers and Non-Muslims

Let not believers make friends with infidels in preference to the faithful - he that does this has nothing to hope for from Good - except in self-defense. God admonishes you to fear Him: for to God shall all return.

    Quran 3:28; "The Imrans," Dawood, p. 52

God's curse be upon the infidels! Evil is that for which they have bartered away their souls. To deny God's own revelation, grudging that He should reveal His bounty to whom He chooses from among His servants! They have incurred God's most inexorable wrath. An ignominious punishment awaits the unbelievers.

    Quran 2:89-2:90, "The Cow," Dawood, p. 13

Lord...Give us victory over the unbelievers.

    Quran 2:286, "The Cow," Dawood, p. 46

Lord...give us victory over the unbelievers.

    Quran 3:148, "The Imrans," Dawood, p. 67

I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers.

    Quran 8:12, "The Spoils," Dawood, p. 177

Fight for the sake of God those that fight against you, but do not attack them first. God does not love the aggressors.
Slay them wherever you find them. Drive them out of the places from which they drove you. Idolatry is worse than carnage.

    Quran 2:190-2:191, "The Cow," Dawood, p. 28

When the sacred months are over slay the idolaters wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them.

    Quran 9:5; "Repentance," Dawood, p. 186

Prophet, make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their home: an evil fate.

    Quran 9:73, "Repentance," Dawood, p. 198

Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Deal firmly with them. Know that God is with the righteous.

    Quran 9:123, "Repentance," Dawood, p. 206

Garments of fire have been prepared for the unbelievers. Scalding water shall be poured upon their heads, melting their skins and that which is in their bellies. They shall be lashed with rods of iron.
Whenever, in their anguish, they try to escape from Hell, back they shall be dragged, and will be told: "Taste the torment of the Conflagration!"

    Quran 22:19-20, "The Pilgrimage," Dawood, p. 333

Muhammad is God's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another.

    Quran 48:29, "Victory," Dawood, p. 514

Those that deny Our revelations We will burn in fire. No sooner will their skins be consumed than We shall give them other skins, so that they may truly taste the scourge. God is mighty and wise.

    Quran 4:56, "Women," Dawood, p. 86

Those that make war against God and His apostle and spread disorder in the land shall be slain and crucified or have their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, or be banished from the land.

    Quran 5:33, "The Table," Dawood, p. 112

When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield strike off their heads and, when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly.

    Quran 47:4, "Muhammad," Dawood, p. 506

Let not the unbelievers think that they will ever get away. They have not the power to do so. Muster against them all the men and cavalry at your command, so that you may strike terror into the enemy of God and your enemy...

    Quran 8:59-60, "The Spoils," Dawood, p. 183

Believers, take neither the Jews nor the Christians for your friends. They are friends with one another. Whoever of you seeks their friendship shall become one of their number. God does not guide the wrong-doers.

    Quran 5:51, "The Table," Dawood, p. 116

Believers, know that the idolaters [non-Muslims] are unclean. Let them not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year is ended.

    Quran 9:28, "Repentance," Dawood, p. 190

The unbelievers among the People of the Book [Bible] and the pagans shall burn for ever in the fire of Hell. They are the vilest of all creatures.

    Quran 98:6, "The Proof," Dawood, p. 598

    Women

They ask you about menstruation. Say: 'It is an indisposition. Keep aloof from women during their menstrual periods and do not approach them until they are clean again; when they are clean, have intercourse with them whence God enjoined you....'

    Quran 2:222, "The Cow," Dawood, p. 34

Women are your fields: go, then, into your fields whence you please
    .
    Quran 2:223, "The Cow," Dawood, p. 34

Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and forsake them in beds apart, and beat them.

    Quran 4:34, "Women," Dawood, p. 83

A male shall inherit twice as much as a female.

    Quran 4:11, "Women," Dawood, p. 77

Call in two male witnesses from among you, but if two men cannot be found, then one man and two women whom you judge fit to act as witnesses...

    Quran 2:282, "The Cow," Dawood, p. 47

If you are in doubt concerning those of your wives who have ceased menstruating, know that their waiting period shall be three months. The same shall apply to those [of your wives] who have not yet menstruated.

    Quran 65:4, "Divorce," Dawood, p. 557

[Forbidden to you are] married women, except those whom you own as slaves.

    Quran 4:24, "Women," Dawood, p. 81

If you fear that you cannot treat [orphan girls] with fairness, then you may marry other women who seem good to you: two, three, or four of them. But if you fear that you cannot maintain equality among them, marry one only or any slave-girl you may own.

    Quran 4:3, "Women," Dawood, p. 76

    Rewards in Paradise

The righteous shall return to a blessed retreat: the gardens of Eden, whose gates shall open wide to receive them. Reclining there with bashful virgins for companions, they will call for abundant fruit and drink.

    Quran 38:51-2, "Sad," Dawood, p. 455

God has purchased from the faithful their lives and worldly goods, and in return has promised them the Garden. They will fight for the cause of God, they will slay, and be slain. Such is the true promise which He has made them in the Torah, the Gospel and the Koran....

    Quran 9:111, "Repentance," Dawood, p. 203

As for the righteous, they shall be lodged in peace together amid gardens and fountains, arrayed in rick silks and fine brocade. Even thus; and We shall wed them to dark-eyed houris.

    Quran 44:51-54, "Smoke," Dawood, p. 497

On that day [the unbelievers] shall be sternly thrown into the fire of Hell . . . But in fair gardens the righteous shall dwell in bliss, rejoicing in what their Lord will give them. Their Lord will shield them from the scourge of Hell. He will say: Eat and drink to your hearts content. This is the reward of your labours.

They shall recline on couches ranged in rows. To dark-eyed houris [virgin girls] We shall wed them. . . . Fruit We shall give them, and such meats as they desire. They will pass from hand to hand a cup inspiring no idle talk, no sinful urge; and there shall wait on them young boys of their own, as fair as virgin pearls.

    Quran 52:13-24, Dawood, p. 370

Reclining there upon soft couches, they shall feel neither the scorching heat nor the biting cold. Trees will spread their shade around them, and fruits will hang in clusters over them.
They shall be served with silver dishes, and beakers as large as goblets; silver goblets which they themselves shall measure: and cups brim-full with ginger-flavoured water from a fount called Salsabil. They shall be attended by boys graced with eternal youth, who to the beholders eyes will seem like sprinkled pearls. When you gave upon that scene, you will behold a kingdom blissful and glorious.

    Quran 76:9-20, Dawood, p. 414
  • richard  - No Honour In Murder
Bullies thrive on cruelty and hide in the shadows of injustice then shrink and wither when exposed. As a writer I have done my best to cast light on these dishonourable murderers.

  • Anonymous  - Islam is peaceful, Mankind can be evil
I am a Muslim. I am a woman and I don t support the killings by these evil people that kill, and say that it is in the name of Islam. Because it is not. If any women, or young lady feel that you are in any danger. Dont stay find a way to get away.GET OUT IF YOU THINK YOU ARE IN DANGER> IF YOU SEE ANY RED FLAGS. Dont trust your fathers, or your brothers. In some cases not even your mother or sisters. I have two daughters and I have advised them of what to do. First of all I told them to always be strong and stand up for themselves. These men that think that they are killing for honor, are sick freaks. This dont only happen in Islam. Men all over the world abuse women. It dont matter about religion, race, or anything. Unfortunately, some men believe that women should be treated less than human. We must stand up and come together to put these demons in a proper place. I pray for all of my sisters, and for all women everywhere. I am a Muslim, and I am calling on all sisters, and mothers to stand together and protect each other. Mothers do what you must do to protect your daughters by any means necessary. My heart hurts for the innocence that have been lose because of these cowards. If these fools are not punish on this earth, rest assure that Allah will punish them. These so call men are not Muslims, they are demons and cowards. They will get everything they deserve on the day of judgement, and those that helped them carry out the dreadful deaths of our precious love ones

Islam is NOT peaceful. I would have stopped reading after that falsehood, but thanks for the rest of what you said.

What people are saying about Acharya S/D.M. Murdock

"Your scholarship is relentless! ...the research conducted by D.M. Murdock concerning the myth of Jesus Christ is certainly both valuable and worthy of consideration." —Dr. Kenneth L. Feder, Professor of Archaeology, Central Connecticut State University, Frauds, Myths, and Mysteries: Science and Pseudoscience In Archaeology

"I can recommend your work whole-heartedly!" —Dr. Robert Eisenman, James the Brother of Jesus and The New Testament Code, RobertEisenman.com

"Well-referenced, with numerous quotations from renowned Egyptologists and classical scholars, Acharya's penetrating research clearly lays out the very ancient pre-Christian basis of modern Christianity. Schoch, Professor of Natural Science College of General Studies at Boston University; Author, Pyramid Quest, Voyages of the Pyramid Builders and Voices of the Rocks

"Acharya S deserves to be recognized as a leading researcher and an expert in the field of comparative mythology, on a par with James Frazer or Robert Graves—indeed, superior to those forerunners in the frankness of her conclusions and the volume of her evidence." —Barbara Walker, The Women's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets and Man Made God

"I've known people with triple Ph.D's who haven't come close to the scholarship in Who Was Jesus?" —Pastor David Bruce, M.Div, North Park Seminary, Chicago, HollywoodJesus.com

Murdock's Who Was Jesus? had been available to me." —Bob Semes, Retired university professor of History and Religion, Founder and Executive Director of The Jefferson Center

"In addition to presenting in Suns of God the troubling history of religious wars in an easily followed narrative, Acharya goes a step further, explaining as only she can how a once-simplistic idea has been carried into our modern world with terrible and nearly unimaginable results." —Rev. Dr. W. Sumner Davis, Fellow, Royal Astronomical Society; Member, American Geophysical Union; Affiliate, New York Academy of Science

"Ms. Murdock is one of only a tiny number of scholars with the richly diverse academic background (and the necessary courage) to adequately address the question of whether Jesus Christ truly existed as a walking-talking figure in first-century Palestine." —David Mills, Atheist Universe

"Thank you, Acharya, for the important work you are doing. Who Was Jesus? Fingerprints of the Christ just might be the best short introduction to Biblical scholarship yet." —David Bergland, 1984 Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate, Libertarianism In One Lesson

"...I have found her scholarship, research, knowledge of the original languages, and creative linkages to be breathtaking and highly stimulating." —Rev. Dr. Jon Burnham, Pastor, Presbyterian Church, Houston, TX

"Acharya S is the ranking religious philosopher of our era." —John K.
